I finished a computer science degree and realised it wasn’t what
I wanted from a job. After travelling overseas, I decided to do
another degree. A few of my friends who work in oral health
suggested that I give the dental therapist and hygienist
training a try. They said it’s a good job with steady income
guaranteed for the future. Now that I’m doing the job, I can
safely say my friends were right.
I did my oral health training at Auckland University of
Technology. Unlike some of my classmates, I didn’t have any
experience in oral health. I was learning everything for the
first time and this made my training all the more interesting.
The highlight of my job is when children open up to me. I’m
thrilled when I see that treatment is relieving their pain and
improving their oral health. People who like to work with
children would enjoy this job too.
If you’ve got lots of enthusiasm and energy, this is a great way
to share it with others. Help us promote good oral health and
give our young people dental care. Come work in oral health.
We’d love to have you.
