Jason - Medical Radiation Technologist at Middlemore Hospital

My experience in health can truly be described as a journey.
Each step has led to bigger and better things. I entered health
as an orderly. From there I became a Patient Care Assistant and
am now a Medical Radiation Technologist (MRT).
My previous roles helped me discover the MRT role. I wanted it
to be my next step in health so I committed myself and trained.
I use x-ray machines to provide images of the body. Patients
come to me in all sorts of conditions. So examining them isn’t
always straight forward. I have to think creatively to work
around their injuries to get the right images. We need to see
exactly what’s going on inside a patient’s body so they can be
diagnosed properly.
We spend very little time with each patient but the images we
produce can have a major impact on their treatment and care. I
love the challenge. It keeps me on my toes and makes every day
and every patient memorable.
Working at Middlemore just takes that to another level. Because
the community is so diverse, each day is filled with so many
different types of people. I think working with them and with
hi-tech medical equipment is the perfect combination. If it also
sounds perfect to you then look into becoming an MRT.
