I helped nurse my mother when she was sick and bedridden.
When doing this, I discovered that I enjoy nursing. I didn’t
want to stop so I decided to make nursing my job.
Having the support of classmates and teaching staff at
Manukau Institute of Technology helps me get the most from
my study. So does receiving a South Auckland Health
Foundation scholarship. It reduces the financial burden of
study and gives me the chance to learn from people who
already work in health at CMDHB.
As part of my training, I’ve had hospital and community
placements. Most of mine have focused on aged care. To be a
nurse in aged care, supporting and caring for the needs of
older adults should appeal to you. I love that I can build
meaningful long term relationships with patients in aged
care. It makes the job even more fulfilling.
You might be looking for something different within nursing.
There are a variety of areas you can work in as a nurse.
Find out what type of nurse you want to be and make it
happen.
