I used to lecture in business studies at AUT before I made the
move to health. There are three key reasons I came into health.
Firstly, I wanted to learn from people who inspired me.
Secondly, to contribute to the well being of Pacific and
mainstream health. Thirdly, to work in a place where
creativity, business insight, teaching and energy are welcomed.
In my role, I get to teach others to see life through a cultural
lens. I also get to design innovative approaches to improve
health outcomes for Pacific populations. I get to work with
Pacific and other health sector leaders, health workers and
other agencies that can impact Pacific health. So it’s essential
that I understand how to network and collaborate with others.
I believe there is no hurdle we can’t jump. Sometimes the
solutions take longer, involve more than one and are not visible
straight away. Results and positive change take time. For this I
find it helps to be driven.
If you are looking for a place to make a difference, to grow, to
be challenged, to be supported and valued then come work in
health. We need an army of soldiers from all ethnicities and all
walks of life to serve our diverse community.
