Surgical Services - Orthapaedics

Counties Manukau District Health Board (CMDHB) provides orthopaedic services for all general orthopaedic conditions and skeletal trauma to people in the South and West Auckland areas. Rheumatoid surgery, muscle skeletal tumours and spinal disorders such as scoliosis and kyphosis are seen and treated for people in all regions. The Orthopaedic Department works in close liaison with the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the Department of Rheumatology and with the Spinal Unit at Otara.

Orthopaedics is a supportive and friendly environment that offers great learning opportunities. We provide tertiary services for tumours, spinal, foot and other orthopaedic conditions. Inpatient acute surgery is provided on the Middlemore site while elective surgery is provided at both Middlemore and Manukau Surgery Centre. Outpatient clinics are held at Manukau, Botany and Waitakere.

We have two acute wards and one shared ward on the Middlemore campus which we operate using a multi-disciplinary team approach, with a focus on rehabilitation and discharge planning.

We offer a comprehensive orientation programme with support from our Clinical Nurse Educator and post graduate programmes, including a Post Graduate course in Orthopaedic Nursing.
