Interpreters at the Interpreting and Translating Service (ITS) offer a 24-hour service, with 90 languages and dialects. The team provide communication services between health professionals, Government departments, Agency departments, private organisations and people whose first language is not English. This is carried out on-site or via the telephone.
Cultural Support Workers are employed in both Te Matapuna Rapuora (maaori Health Services) and in the Pacific Health Cultural Resources Unit. They provide information, assistance and support to patients and their families.
Counties Manukau DHB employs a small number of
Engineering staff, including:
- Carpenters
- Plumbers
- Electricians
- Fitters & Engineers
- Groundsmen
Biomedical Engineering staff are employed to carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of patient applied medical equipment, provide technology resources for medical staff, maintain an inventory of and control the lifecycle of medical devices, monitor hazard alerts and report to users, and test new equipment.
Volunteers are a critical part of CMDHB and allow the local community to be involved in their neighbourhood hospital. All volunteers complete an orientation and receive a Volunteer Handbook by the appropriate Volunteer Co-ordinator/Agency, as well as initial basic training" from the Service Group concerned.
This includes Vision Statement, Privacy, cultural sensitivity, fire and safety, incidents and complaints, hand washing requirements, hospital acquired infections, accident/incident reporting, hazard identification and management, etc. Training programmes where appropriate will include organisation structure, customer service commitment, child development, critical stress factors relating to staff, patients and families.
House Keeping, Kitchen/food service and Orderly services are provided by contractors at all of the main sites within Counties Manukau District Health Board.
