Mental Health Graduate
Programme
The Mental Health Graduate Programme is a specially designed
programme to challenge and develop the New Graduate Nurse in the
specialty of Mental Health. It is an exciting programme with the
support from a strong team within Mental Health services.
There is a strong focus on the academic component to develop
competency, with 17 study days through out the year to provide
the programme. The New Graduate will work towards a Post
Graduate Certificate in Nursing, which is completed during the
graduate year with 2 x 30 point papers through the University of
Auckland.
The New Graduate will be provided with professional supervision
as well as having a preceptor within their clinical placement,
and access to the Mental Health Nurse Educator Team.
Clinical placements are aimed to provide a 6 month placement in
both a community and inpatient setting. CMDHB provides and funds
a range of mental health services for people who experience
mental illness these include:
Adult Inpatient Mental Health
Tiaho Mai:
Tiaho Mai is an acute mental health unit situated in the grounds
of Middlemore Hospital. There are three wards:

Kuaka is the intensive care unit with 12 beds

Huia is a ward of 20 beds

Tui is a ward of 18 beds
Tamaki Oranga:
Adult rehabilitation unit for males
Adult Community Mental Health
These four CMHCs are geographically based clinics that provide
services to those people within their own locations who
experience severe mental illness and require tertiary support:

Manukau Community Mental Health Care

The Cottage Community Mental Health Centre

Te Rawhiti Community Mental Health Centre

Awhinatia Community Mental Health Centre
Intensive
Community Team:
A
specialist community based mental health service promoting
recovery. The members of this team are a highly mobile,
intensive, multi-disciplinary team that provides ongoing
treatment and support to people with severe mental health
problems.
Early Psychosis Intervention Team:
EPIT are the adult early psychosis intervention
team for Counties Manukau DHB. We are a comprehensive clinical
service for young adults (18-30) who are experiencing psychotic
symptoms for the first time.
Te Puna Waiora: Maaori Mental Health
Te
Puna Waiora is for Tangata Whaiora (clients) who are of Maaori
descent and aged between 18 and 65 years old who reside in the
Counties Manukau District Health Board catchment area.

Manaaki Ora: Community mental health team
Faleola Mental Health Services
Faleola Mental Health Services are a clinical mental health team
specialising in the assessment and treatment of Pacific ethnic
persons aged 18 to 64 who reside within the Counties Manukau
District Health region.
They
have expertise in the areas of culturally appropriate
psychiatric assessments, mental health promotion and effective
communication with Pacific consumers and families. They provide
extensive networks among our Pacific communities and provide
skills in mental health research and education. They also assist
mainstream services respond to the needs of Pacific people.
Whirinaki Child and Adolescent Mental Health
Whirinaki Child and Adolescent Mental Health is a community
based service for children and young people between the ages of
0-19 years with serious emotional, psychological or behavioural
disturbance, suspected psychiatric illness or serious mental
illness.
Mental Health Services For Older People (MHSOP)
Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) is an integrated
assessment and treatment service for older people (65 and over)
with moderate to severe mental health problems or behavioural
and psychological symptoms associated with Dementia. There are
both inpatient as well as community based services within MHSOP.
Liaison Psychiatry
Assessment and triage of people who are
admitted or treated within Middlemore Hospital
Whakatupu Ora
A specialist service supporting the emotional wellbeing of
babies, toddlers and their families.
Dual Disability
This is an adult mental health service for people
with a dual disability (mental health disorder, an intellectual
disability/Autism Spectrum Disorder and complex needs). |
