Basic education includes 4 weeks orientation to the service and CMDHB, ongoing training for existing staff, a rotation programme for midwives to provide an opportunity to up-skill and consolidate skills, and Resource Midwives to support new staff and a Midwife Educator for ongoing professional development.
We offer a Clinical Competency Pathway, which is a requirement for all staff to complete that supports ongoing development as a Midwife. Women's Health organises an annual Midwifery conference that attracts Midwives New Zealand wide to participate.
We also have strong links with Auckland University of Technology and have developed in partnership with them a graduate Midwifery programme. The midwifery new graduate program is aimed at consolidating the practice of the new graduate specific to the hospital environment. This one-year program aims to support the beginning practitioner as they rotate through an antenatal, postnatal and delivery suite setting. Resource midwives co-ordinate the program organizing named preceptors and four extra study days, which are pertinent to working in our busy, high-risk department.
All clinical staff are encouraged and supported to be members of their chosen professional body. We also offer flexible rostering, and onsite creche, will contribute to your relocation costs if necessary* and we offer competitive remuneration.
